Abstract

To solve germination problems of Atriplex species seeds, eleven treatments plus the control was implemented to test break seeds dormancy. A Laboratory experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Department Laboratory of Seed Testing, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University, Egypt during December, 2013. Four atriplex species were evaluated to germination characters i.e. final germination percentage, germination speed, germination vigor and germination rate. The results revealed that soaking seed in hot water (80ºC) for one hour was produced highest germination percentage, germination speed, germination rate and vigour index of Atriplex nummularia, Lindl, Atriplex canescens, James, Atriplex haulms, L and Atriplex glauca, L, followed by soaking seed in sulphuric acid 25% for 20 minutes compared with other studies treatments. Seed scarification produced highest germination rate in the four species Atriplex nummularia, Lindl, Atriplex canescens, James, Atriplex haulms, L and Atriplex glauca, L, and increased germination rate by 31.98, 29.1, 32.50, 35.36%, respectively compared with the control treatment.
