Abstract

The plant leaves contain a number of medicinally considerable compounds. The present investigation was carried out to explore the phytochemicals present in the Moringa oleifera plant leaves to evaluate and compare the antimicrobial activity of Moringa oleifera leaves against Aeromonas eucrenophila, Enterobacter aerogenes, Morganella morganii, E. coli, Bacillus casei, Cunninghamella bertholletiae, Aspergillusnidulans, Aspergillus flavus, Apergillus niger, Mucor hemalis. Antimicrobial activity of 50, 100, 150 and 100% ethyl acetate extract of Moringa oleifera has been evaluated against above pathogens. In 100% and 150% concentration, ethyl acetate extract of Moringa oleifera showed the highest 23mm and 25mm antimicrobial zone respectively against Morganella morganii. While, 19mm, 20mm antimicrobial zone respectively against Apergillus flavus. In 150% concentration, it has highest 18mm, 19mm, 20mm and 21mm antimicrobial zone respectively against Enterobacter aerogenes, Apergillusnidulans, Bacillus casei, Aeromonas eucrenophila. The leaves of ethyl acetate extract of Moringa oleifera contain alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, phenols, saponin, tannin, carbohydrate. The extract showed inhibitory effects due to the presence of above phytoconsistuents.
